Giveaway: Chicken Soup for the Soul It's Christmas

Joyce Laird had left her Christmas turkey to brine in the sink as usual. But when she went to rotate it, she was horrified to find her supposedly dead turkey hopping around on the kitchen floor! Her children started screaming, and her husband rushed in to bravely conquer the zombie turkey. The mystery was solved when their cat poked his little head out of the turkey’s body. Joyce’s family started a new tradition that year with an emergency Christmas rib roast. Their story is a great way to put Christmas mishaps in perspective, and is just one of the many funny and heartwarming holiday memories recounted in Chicken Soup for the Soul: It’s Christmas!  From dancing turkeys and other holiday hijinks to cherished memories and traditions, this collection of 101 stories about the love, fun, and wonder of the holidays is a great way to jumpstart your own Christmas spirit.

Christmas can be quite suspenseful too. Monika LaPlante shares a startling story in the book about how she was awakened on Christmas Eve by her sister’s terrified pleas to an intruder in her room. Monika then realized there was a man standing in the dark in her room, too. The brave teen reached for her glasses and turned on the light, ready to defend herself, only to discover that she and her sister were the recipients of the elves’ best work, which had been intended for Christmas morning. Standing at the foot of their beds were life-size cardboard cutouts of teen heartthrobs Edward Cullen and Justin Bieber.

You may be one of those people who take Christmas very seriously, with long to-do lists, a lot of stress, and an attic full of decorations. These stories will remind you to have fun while you’re at it. Dawn Byrne’s husband competed with his sister every year to see who had the best decorated yard, so one year, right after Christmas, Dawn suggested they steal his sister’s Baby Jesus from her outdoor nativity scene. Dawn and her husband spent the next year taking pictures of the kidnapped baby in various locations and sending them to his sister. She played along and even taped a picture of her missing Baby Jesus to a milk carton.

Whether these stories make you laugh out loud or bring a tear to your eye, you’ll want to share them with friends and relatives. This is a gift that will keep on giving, keeping the spirit of Christmas alive all year.

Review: Nicholas Sparks "The Best Of Me"

        NICHOLAS SPARKS
                       THE BEST OF ME
Nicholas Sparks’ book, The Best of Me, is about two high school lovers who, by the end of the summer of their senior year, take sperate paths. They meet up again 25 years later for a funeral; one is married with children, the other distances themselves from the outside world. Neither of them is living the life they thought they would live. After meeting up they are forced to relive painful memories, and they figure out things they thought knew about themselves and their pasts weren’t what they seemed.

I really enjoyed this book. It was the first Nicholas Sparks book I had ever read and it made me want to read more of his books. I like the way the book is written in third person because that makes it easier to switch to what one character to another. It took me about two days to read this book and it felt like I took a vacation out of my life and into the mind of Nicholas Sparks. He put it into so much detail you could almost paint an exact picture of what he was thinking while writing the book. I was as if I could hear the birds that he was writing a book. The ending was a perfect ending to a heartfelt love story.
